The project was implemented through an international open call aimed at hosting a young sculptor under the age of 35, who spent one month working in the school’s workshop to create a significant sculpture in Botticino marble.
Ten artists applied to the call, and the winner was Spanish sculptor Cristobal Delgado, who created the work Squeezed (170 × 100 × 80 cm).
The aim of the “Young Sculptors” project was to establish the foundations for a complete artistic marble production chain, starting from the extraction of the material in the quarry and leading to a prestigious international showcase, through phases of specialized training and artistic research.
The project activities were designed to offer young sculptors opportunities for artistic growth closely connected to the places where the marble is extracted and produced, and promoted directly by the stakeholders involved in this local ecosystem. Participants were offered a framework of complementary activities—also accessible individually—within a creative workshop dedicated to Botticino marble carving, where they could experience the material firsthand, starting from its place of origin: the quarry.
